How a children’s hearing test changes with age
A children’s hearing test is designed around your child’s stage of development:
- Infants and toddlers. Our paediatric audiologists use a fun puppet show to measure overall hearing and check middle-ear health.
- Preschool children (ages 3 to 6). Hearing is tested individually in each ear through fun games and puzzles using headphones, with parents welcome to observe.
- School-age children and adults. Headphones are used to assess sound and speech perception and middle-ear health and, if needed, auditory brainstem function, all in painless sessions.
What a diagnostic assessment involves
A diagnostic hearing assessment is a thorough check of how well your child can hear. It starts with a discussion about your concerns, followed by a range of age-appropriate tests to determine the degree and type of any hearing loss.
